India at a Climate Crossroad: Madhu Menon & Sonal Kellogg Discuss Our Future

I have spent nearly four decades working with the Ahmedabad Nature Lovers Association, teaching children about the environment, and making films to spread awareness. Yet, even today, I see the same problems — polluted rivers, disappearing forests, and toxic air in our cities.

During my recent conversation with journalist Sonal Kellogg for the Lok Sabha Election Series, we discussed why climate change must be treated as a national priority.

“Development should not destroy the very resources that keep us alive,” I told her.

Our policies exist, but they lack urgency. Citizens must demand action. Clean air, safe water, and healthy soil should be non-negotiable election promises.

I also shared how my own home is a zero-waste home — we compost all kitchen waste and grow our food organically. I believe we must practice what we preach.

Sonal raised tough, insightful questions that made this conversation truly meaningful. Together, we hope to inspire more people to take small steps that lead to big change.
